Referrals just got an upgrade ( ˘⌣˘) ♡ (˘⌣˘ )

New users can now let us know who invited them to Medal (up to 14 days after registering), whether it's you, a favorite creator, etc.

We’ll ask users to verify their phone number when adding a referral. It’s quick and helps make sure everything’s fair and working as intended:

• Users can’t refer themselves or add random names• A phone number can only be used once for a referral• Referrals must be existing Medal users who were on Medal before the new user

UI improvements

• Referrals now show up during onboarding and in settings for up to 14 days after registering• If a referral is already sent, the input will be disabled so you know it’s been saved (success and error messages should also help guide the way)• Fixed a few layout bugs with dropdowns, avatars, and modals

[◉_◉] Medal Discord Bot

Medal bot just got some serious upgrades, so you have way more control when sharing clips to Discord.

Game & server filters
You can now configure the bot to send clips from **specific games or servers** straight to the right channels. This works with **Minecraft**, **FiveM**, and **Roblox games**: simply select which server or game clips should go where in Discord (AKA no more Valorant spam in the GTA RP channel)

Multi-channel support
Since #fails and #burps can come from any game, you can now send clips from multiple games of your choice to the same Discord channel:

Automatic sharing
Enable "Automatically share clips" and let your server do the rest. Your members can just play and clip, and Medal handles the posting.

Context menu revamp

Right-click on a clip to access a handy and more-consistent menu to easily grab the link, favorite, download, follow, or report. You'll see this cleaned up menu pretty much everywhere clips are found: game pages, server pages (like FiveM RP servers), subgames (Roblox Titanic?), and your homepage feed.

More control over bookmarks
You can now show or hide specific bookmark types within the Long Recording Trimmer, giving you more flexibility when editing your sessions.

Age check reminder
If we don't know your age, you'll see a friendly reminder popup every few days asking for your date of birth. This is just us doing our legal duties to keep Medal safe.

Bug fixes
- Fixed an issue where some game pages could show outdated info (no more "0 followers" for PEAK!)
- Fixed an issue where you couldn’t click the "montage all clips" button inside the Long Recording editor.

You can now edit the game title of generically-labelled "GeForce NOW" clips so they reflect the actual game you're playing, keeping your Medal library organized by game (as it should be 🧹)

Smarter game recording
- Better recovery: Fixed a bug where recording a game might not re-activate properly after a recording failure, especially if the game switches between windowed and fullscreen modes.
- Improved support for games like Minecraft: Games that frequently recreate their windows (like Badlion or Feather client) now record more reliably.
This should help avoid cases where you get a black screen instead of gameplay, especially in fullscreen or in more complex game clients.

All recordings now use MP4
MP4 is the new default: Long recordings (AKA full session recordings) are now saved as MP4 files instead of MKV files.
Long recordings were previously in MKV format to support playback in certain scenarios. However, we updated our version of Electron, which uses Chromium (and doesn't officially support MKV playback). As a result of this upgrade, for the past few weeks a subset of users were experiencing severe playback buffering or artifacting. Moving to MP4 helps avoid those issues and keeps things more stable.

Convert older recordings from MKV to MP4: You can convert existing MKVs to MP4s in the full-session editor. This is optional, but may help if you're seeing playback issues.

Tag your squad (automagically)
If we detect your friends in a League of Legends match, you’ll be able to tag them when posting a clip. No more “bro I was literally there” arguments.

How fast can those fingies go?
30 what? Speed. Hover over a clip’s timeline to check your **APM (actions per minute)** and see just how sweaty you were at that moment (clips only, not long recordings).

Better Discord bot setup
We revamped the Medal Discord bot settings so you can configure it on a per-channel basis, making your clip destinations easier to manage.

Fixes & Tweaks

- Game sessions now close properly: Some game sessions were incorrectly staying open forever, which meant your profile could keep showing a game long after you stopped playing. We now auto-hide game status after 24 hours.
- Fixed a bug when posting trimmed cloud clips: Posting an unsaved trimmed clip that was cloud-synced could cause some weirdness on your profile. That’s patched up now.
- Minor settings cleanup: More fine-tuning and polish in the settings menu to make things easier to find.

Sick of waiting for a clip to download so you can edit it? Opening an expiring clip in the editor now prioritizes your local file instead of downloading the version stored on our servers, so you can get to editing faster and without interruption.

🖥️ Fixed multi-monitor mishaps

We’ve improved how screen recording handles itself when you disconnect or switch monitors. Whether you're hot-swapping displays or pulling out a projector, recordings will now behave as expected...or else.

🌐 Offline clips no longer in limbo

Clips created while disconnected will now upload properly once you're back online, so no more clips stuck in the void.

Premium users can now change the sound that Medal makes when capturing a clip. Use one of ours, or you own: we trust that you'll be normal and not-weird with it.

You may have noticed a fancy new mini-game on the desktop app. If you are knowledgeable enough to get 5/5 questions correct, you may just get a very professional achievement for your Medal profile. The game won't last forever...

🔍 Better search & sharing

• Search history: Your recent searches are now saved, making it easier to find what you're looking for
• Interact with shared clips: You can now comment, like, and favorite clips that were shared, even if they weren't publicly posted (e.g. someone shared the link with you, but didn't post it to their profile)
• UI updates: Freshened up some visuals around the app

🔊 Clipping sound

• We've reverted the default clipping sound back to the classic sound you know and love.

🛠️ Bug fixes

• Auto-clipping bookmarks in the Editor now only show when the event is enabled
• Auto-clipping game events are now neatly organized under checkboxes with streamlined UI updates
• You no longer get notified about every clip upload rapid fire, but instead get one notification after all uploads have finished. Wahoo!

- Closed: No one comments. Silence.  Peace. Zen.
- Followers Only: Only your loyal squad gets to drop reactions.
- Following Only: You choose who gets in. VIP vibes.

- Cloud syncing albums with screenshots is now working again. Your moments are safe in the sky ☁️

Share clips directly to Discord with Medalbot 🦾

No need to tab around or copy/paste links; we've re-launched our Discord bot to make sharing clips even easier:

• When you choose to share a clip directly to Discord, Medalbot will post it for you!
• Anyone with 'Manage Server' role can configure Medalbot.
• Find it in the Medal app: Settings > Medal Discord Bot.

Fixed those pesky missing thumbnails in your library - your clips are no longer playing hide and seek with their preview images! Video playback is back to normal too.

Screenshots were trying to live their dream as videos in some players... we've helped them accept their fate as still images.

SPLAT🦶
Fixed a quirky issue where downloading a screenshot might give you a surprise file type. Your screenshots will no longer be having an identity crisis when they reach your hard drive!

Lastly, we've updated the quest system to work better, so look forward to some exciting new quests very soon.
